Background: In order to advocate greater public participation in government, a better awareness of Democracy in America today and to support the study of government and history by Bay Village High School students, the Bay Village Democratic Club offers a scholarship of $500 each to a senior male and a female student who intends to continue his or her education within a year. 
 
The award will be announced at the Bay High School Academic Achievement Awards ceremonies.
 
The award will go to  students who are registered voters (if eligible), meet academic qualifications, demonstrate concern for others by participation in volunteer activities and whose application was selected by a panel of three Bay Village Democratic Club members.
 
Award recipients must agree to attend the June Democratic Club meeting at Bay Library on June 2, 2009 to read their essay at which time the award check will be presented.
 
Applicants must be seniors in Bay High School.  All applicants will be treated equally regardless of any consideration of personal or family political party affiliation or activity.

I have attached an essay I have composed and written myself on How our current economic crisis will reshape our economy and create new opportunities. The student should select any aspect that falls within this subject. The essay should be between 250 and 500 words and will be evaluated on content, readability and proper use of the English language.
