A message from State Treasurer Richard Cordray
Last week I was honored to be recommended by Governor Ted Strickland and this morning to be nominated by the Ohio Democratic Party to run for Ohio Attorney General this year.
This is a unique opportunity to serve my fellow citizens in a role that Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher has described as the “chief legal officer, the chief law enforcement officer, and the chief advocate and protector of the people’s rights.”
If elected, my priorities will be to rebuild the public trust, to fight crime by convicting the guilty while exonerating the innocent, and to protect the financial security of Ohioans. We will build on the work we do every day in the Treasurer’s office to keep families in their homes, protect consumers against fraud, and treat small businesses fairly. And we will continue to work in partnership with our local officials and community organizations so that we all can do our best work, together.
I will strive to represent Ohioans with the determination, respect, and professionalism that they deserve, and my team will be guided by these same principles.
This election presents a major challenge, no doubt about it, but we are fortunate to be accompanied on this journey by many friends: Governor Ted Strickland, whose leadership has changed politics for the good on Capitol Square; Lee Fisher, who gave me the chance to serve as Ohio’s first State Solicitor; and countless Ohioans whose admirable stories inspire and motivate me to public service. I hope you will join us in this great adventure over the coming months as we do all we can to ensure that Ohio and America both elect progressive leaders in November.
Please visit our website at www.cordrayforohio.com to volunteer or make a donation to our effort. It is a short campaign, so act now – time is of the essence! Do not wait for “marching orders” or permission from “headquarters” – just go out and all do the things you know so well how to do in order to advance our cause.
Thank you for your support,
Richard Cordray
